Q Racings
Q Racing's History
The origins of Q Racing may be found in the early days of the American West. The quarter-mile distance was used as the norm for races when cowboys and ranchers started horse racing in the late 1800s on the wide-open plains. These early competitions were unofficial and were staged concurrently with rodeos or other regional events.
The sport started to become structured and controlled as it gained popularity. To monitor and advance the Q Racing sport, the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) was established in 1940. Since then, the AQHA has worked to develop the sport's rules and regulations and to advance the breeding and upkeep of quarter horses.
